A furlong is a unit of distance equal to 220 yards, or
201.168 meters. It was traditionally used in the measurement of land area and is
still used in horse racing and other equestrian sports. The word "furlong"
comes from the Old English "furh" (furrow) and "lang" (long), as it was the
distance a team of oxen could plow without needing a rest.
